A bombshell report has exposed one of the most disturbing mishandlings of evidence in the Idaho student murders case, and many people are downplaying it.
At the center of this controversy is a light green Wild Fable jacket and a pink Victoria’s Secret heart blanket, both belonging to surviving roommate Dylan Mortensen.
Both items were removed from the crime scene, released back to Dylan, and later seized again after the defense demanded independent testing.
What happened next is nearly unbelievable.
✔️ Both the green floral jacket and the pink heart blanket were found in the downstairs vacant bedroom on the first floor. A room on the same floor as Bethany’s room.
✔️ Evidence was released back to Dylan Mortensen with no documented date of return, a major chain-of-custody failure.
✔️ Moscow Police sprayed BOTH the jacket and blanket with Bluestar before sending them to the Idaho State Police lab, even though Bluestar is supposed to be used after photographing and documenting stains.
✔️ Investigators admitted they did not take photographs before spraying, violating best-practice forensic standards.
✔️ Bluestar chemically reacts with, and can destroy, blood, DNA, and cellular material.
The ISP analysts specifically noted that Bluestar can dilute, degrade, or erase biological evidence.
✔️ The stains on both items showed “patterned staining,” dark reddish discoloration, and irregular shapes, consistent with potential blood transfer or diluted blood flow.
✔️ After Bluestar was applied, nearly all O-tol blood tests came back negative, which is exactly what happens when Bluestar washes out or destroys surface blood.
✔️ Idaho State Police analysts documented that Bluestar “may have diluted or eliminated” DNA, hemoglobin, and trace evidence, meaning the SPD’s early actions likely erased whatever those stains originally were.
The forensic correspondence explicitly states:
“These items were ones that were deemed personal items and released back to [Dylan]. The court then ordered they get all items… that had been released back into custody.”
(ISP Correspondence Log, 6/14/23 D22000030 JACKET)
So, a jacket with visible reddish-brown staining, an item the defense specifically flagged, was removed from evidence, returned to Dylan, and only later reclaimed after the defense requested that it be set for independent testing.
The logs do not show the date it was returned to her.
They do not show the condition it was in when she had it (Police claim no photos were taken).
They do not confirm whether it was washed or handled.
Police admitted:
“I asked if [Dylan] had washed the items… They said they did not know.”
(ISP Correspondence Log D22000030 JACKET)
This is catastrophic for any preservation of forensic integrity.
When the defense asked that these items be sent to a private forensic lab, Moscow Police did something no trained crime scene technician should ever do:
They sprayed both items with Bluestar on their own.
And they admitted they didn’t even photograph the items before doing it.
The forensic analyst wrote:
“Whole item previously exposed to Bluestar chemical.”
(ISP Notes on Blanket, Item 132 D22000030 JACKET )
“Whole item previously exposed to Bluestar chemical.”
(ISP Notes on Jacket, Item 133 D22000030 JACKET)
The DNA unit later warned:
And this line from the forensic analyst is devastating:
“There is no way to determine at this point if there is blood on the item.”
(ISP Correspondence D22000030 JACKET)
So the police sprayed the jacket and blanket with a chemical that:
This was after the defense requested independent analysis.
The Wild Fable floral jacket is covered in:
The ISP file repeatedly notes:
“Apparent pattern staining.”
(Item 133 description D22000030 JACKET)
They tested 20 stains.
All were negative, exactly what happens when Bluestar has been sprayed on top of blood.
And even more damning:
Moscow Police admitted the Bluestar photographs “did not turn out.”
So they altered the evidence without documenting what it looked like beforehand.

The Victoria’s Secret blanket showed:
ISP:
“Results… indicated the presence of blood.”
(Final Biology Report D22000030 JACKET)
Every other stain?
Negative, again, consistent with Bluestar interference.
The logs show a crystal-clear timeline:
This means:
🔻 If there WAS blood on Dylan’s jacket, it cannot be confirmed now.
🔻 If DNA WAS present, it may have been diluted beyond detection.
🔻 Critical exculpatory or inculpatory evidence is now permanently compromised.
And the kicker:
“There is no way to determine at this point if there is blood on the item.”

This should be national news.
